Client insight from Ichron the Geologists
Gavin Howarth Senior Stratigrapher at Ichron, kindly provides some insight into how he approached the development of his website, which was launched in April 2012. See the advice from Gavin below:
Make the services you offer clear on your homepage
Make the services your company offers clear to your clients, never assume they understand your full company portfolio. We decided on the four main core-areas of the company and used strong, relevant imagery to make these stand out on the homepage and not hide them away behind tabs.
Add further detail with sub-pages
Our four main service areas could be expanded to add further detail on each sub-discipline, again we used strong relevant imagery to enhance the page.
Follow a consistent format for the text on each page
We kept to a consistent format on each page to add continuity to the site, it also helped the designer in understanding the amount of text and type of text we wanted to display; for example, an opening paragraph, followed by bullet points, followed by a closing sentence.
Make your website structure easy to understand and navigate around with easy links back to your homepage
We wanted to make the structure of the site easy to understand and so went with a drop-down menu that listed all the pages on the site under the main discipline headers. This allowed the user to fully understand the entire range of services on offer, just from a single click.
Make it easy for people to get in contact with you
An addition to our site was the inclusion of a Contact Us form, previously we had just stated how to get In touch. We found this has helped and encouraged visitors to make contact, as some people feel more comfortable in using this method to communicate.
