What we did:
Moving IMPACT is a multi-country research project led by Imperial College London, exploring how solar mini-grids can be integrated into rural communities across Kenya, Ghana and Rwanda to support cleaner cooking, agriculture, and small-scale electric mobility. The project brings together partner institutions and on-the-ground research teams to understand the real-world impact of energy access on people, livelihoods and local environments.
View Website...The Moving IMPACT logo captures the essence of a people-centred energy project without relying on literal or tech-heavy visuals. It combines cultural cues, geometric structure, and subtle references to solar innovation to create a warm, meaningful identity.
Human Element – A stylised, geometric human figure represents the communities benefiting from solar mini-grids. The figure is gender-neutral and echoes the modular patterns of solar panels, linking people and energy infrastructure.
Sunshine Element – A radiating sun motif sits behind the figure, abstracted into geometric patterns inspired by solar panel surfaces and African textiles, symbolising energy powering communities.
Colours & Geography – The palette draws on earthy tones and greens from Ghana, Kenya, and Rwanda, creating a heritage-led, culturally authentic aesthetic.
Solar Panel Geometry – Subtle patterning on the figure’s headpiece references solar engineering, nodding to the technology without appearing overly technical.
The result is a logo that is human-centred, culturally informed, and visually symbolic of the project’s impact across communities and countries.
The website was designed to serve as a clear and accessible hub for project updates, team information, research outputs and community insights. We carried the logo’s shapes, colours and cultural cues through to the digital interface, striking a balance between personality and professionalism.
Layouts were intentionally simple and intuitive to meet accessibility standards, with strong contrast, mobile-first structure and an information hierarchy that makes it easy for visitors to explore the project’s work.
The homepage imagery highlights the three core themes—solar power, e-mobility and clean cooking—while inner pages provide space for publications, presentations, videos and news as the project progresses.
On the technical side, the site was built as a fully responsive, low-maintenance WordPress theme, optimised for speed, clarity and long-term content growth across the three-year programme.
The Moving IMPACT brand and website work hand in hand to tell a cohesive story—one that is human-centred, culturally informed, and focused on the real-world impact of renewable energy infrastructure. The logo communicates collaboration, community, and solar energy in a subtle, meaningful way, while the website provides an accessible platform for sharing research, updates, and resources with partners and wider audiences.
Together, they create a professional yet approachable identity that reflects the values and objectives of the project, supporting engagement and knowledge sharing across multiple countries and stakeholder groups.
