Work Experience: Day 5
My final day of work experience here at greensplash is now upon us! Although I am sad that my time here has come to an end, I have had a really exciting day, full of new experiences.
I started off the day by finishing off yesterday’s blog post and doing more social media scheduling, before putting the most recent blog live. These were all tasks I had performed before, but the fact that I am finding them easier each day illustrates how much knowledge I have absorbed from my time at greensplash. I am glad that I am able to recall these tasks with relative ease because I am confident that they will come in useful at some point in the future. After this, it was time to learn all about something completely different!
A Lesson in Direct Marketing
In a similar way to previous ‘lessons’ I had had earlier in the week, Matt kindly spent time this morning going through the basics of Direct Marketing. We focused mainly on email marketing and Matt outlined the key principles behind this form of advertising. His clear and concise overview was excellent in helping me grasp the basics and meant that I understood what was going on when Matt later showed me how greensplash can monitor the effectiveness of their campaigns. He also explained the importance of statistics, such as open rates and conversion rates, and I found that my research into SMS marketing yesterday aided me to some extent in understanding this as well. Since I regularly receive direct marketing via email, I found it very interesting to learn more about this concept – like with the lesson in PPC, I had no idea how much goes into the process of direct marking.
A Meeting with the MP
As briefly mentioned in yesterday’s blog, our local MP, Graham Evans, came to visit greensplash. Nick, a photographer from the Northwich Guardian, took some photos of Jon Ranwell, Graham Evans and I, before having to rush off somewhere. Graham Evans was, however, able to stay for longer and we were able to chat about my time at greensplash and his recent election campaign. It was a thoroughly interesting and engaging discussion, especially due to Graham’s amiable character. Following on from this, I had to get back to the writing of the Northwich Guardian Article. I added in an additional paragraph about meeting with Graham Evans, ensuring that the article covers all the key features of my week.
Learning About Design
Despite learning lots about the marketing methods used here at greensplash throughout the week, I had not learnt too much about the design aspect of the company. However, this changed this afternoon when I was able to spend time with another member of the team, Stacey, who explained all about her role as graphic and web designer. We discussed the paramount importance of branding and logos for businesses, and Stacey went on to demonstrate the process used to design a logo and sometimes a website for clients, including style tiles and wireframes. This overview gave me a basic grounding in what design is all about, and added a completely different dynamic to the work I have learnt about so far. I am so glad that I got to discover more about this aspect of the business before the end of my work experience.
And that’s the End!
Finishing off this blog will be my final task here at greensplash, and then my time will be over. I would like to thank everyone at greensplash for looking after me so well and ensuring that I have had an extremely beneficial and enjoyable week!
